Fantastic parking device Jun 04, 2011
By Joe

Got this item so there would be space for me to walk to the other side of our garage (where the tools are) without having a vehicle in the way.
The first one died about a month after ordering it. The company I ordered from was gracious and sent me a replacement even though I was past the 30 day guaranteed return.
The second one is going strong and is fantastic. Just maneuver your vehicles into the places you want them to stop (and the garage door won't hit them) and adjust the lasers to hit the edge of the dash ahead of the steering wheel.
Great device that beats the tennis ball on a string any day!

Fooled me twice.... Apr 27, 2010

I first bought this (Maxsa) version of this device (virtually identical to the Sierra version, clearly the same manufacturer). All was well at first, both lights nice and bright. But after only two weeks, one of the laser lights went dim. It still comes on, but not nearly bright enough to be of use. Since we liked the system during the short time it worked, we decided to roll the dice again, hoping for a better outcome, so I ordered the Sierra version. Guess what, the EXACT same thing happened (one light on, but too dim to be of use), but this time time it happened DURING THE INITIAL AIMING PROCESS! So, I now have two of these things installed in my garage, each of them with only half of it working.
Don't waste your money.

not as good as it looks Feb 25, 2010
By Harlan McDean The laser works great but you can't move the beam as wide as you need to get both cars..You need a high ceiling

Great functionality; if it fails Maxsa stands behind it Jul 04, 2010
By Longhorn Below is my original review. I came back and added this comment and upped the score when the manufacturer did the right thing and replaced my unit and were genuinely concerned with the fault I experienced. Good show. Technology fails sometimes, we all know that. I don't believe they read this review before deciding to help me but it's possible...
--- Of course just two months out of warranty is when my unit decided to fail. One beam is clear, the other diffuse and dim. Plus the motion sensor doesn't keep the lasers on long enough. If you're easing into a tight garage the laser will often shut off right when you (I) get near the end of your parking sequence. Since mine is plugged into an AC outlet, why is it programmed to do this? It's not like a need a "battery saver" mode. Stupid.
However when it works I like it so much better than tennis balls, that I'm going to try again and order a second one. If this doesn't work I'm throwing it out and going another direction...

Great System, with Some Minor Adjustment Difficulties Apr 13, 2012
By G33kman My wife and I really needed something more accurate than the "block of wood under the tire" or the "tennis ball string system" since space is tight in our garage horizontally and impractical vertically (didn't have a 15' ladder). So I purchased this device and designed up a placement hack to solve those problems.
For mounting, I screwed a horizontal block of wood between the punched angle iron that supported the garage door tracks - at about 8' high. I used the bottom of the wood block as my fake "ceiling" - the surface to mount the laser device. There is a flat, black, plastic bracket that gets screwed flush into the surface. The bulk of the device slides on to it and is released as necessary with a tab, so nothing is too permanent. Power is provided with a standard-looking AC/DC adapter, which means you need an outlet nearby. I used the same one that my door openers used. Then it's a matter of aiming the laser at a particular point on your parked car's dash or hood that you can see when driving in. That was the most difficult part as the lasers have a bit too much friction and it's not an entirely smooth movement to adjust. Plus there's not a wide range of angles to adjust either, so you really do need it at a somewhat standard ceiling height (8' or higher) to get enough aiming position options.
Once the motion detector on the front senses movement it will turn on the lasers for both cars. The delay before the laser turns off is about 20 seconds. But even if it does, it'll come back on in within a few seconds afterward if there's still motion detected. Beyond that it's easy to use: just line up your designated spot on the car with the red dot as you drive in. That gives you a precise point both in distance-in and side-to-side. I can now park perfectly each time to maximize walking space in front of my car.
The system has been working perfectly for 8 months now with no problems. The lasers are still as bright and distinct as the first day. My only complaint is the adjustment and angling of the lasers. Once it's placed, you're done and good. Beyond that it's not a bad deal for $30.
