Nice lite Jul 07, 2011
By Specks1998 Nice light works like a flashlight. With it's strong beam up to whole a block in my neighborhood. But wide burst of light like a lantern. It's not all that heavy even with the batteries in it. It can use both D & big square volt battery. I have not tested the floating ability if dropped in water. The rubber is a little more harder & stiff. Than previous models. But over all it's a great lantern / flashlight.
Great Quality, Great Light. May 07, 2012

You can see and feel the quality of this flashlight, and it is brighter than a standard 6 volt light. I like the fact that with the built in stand, it can be used as a fixed position floodlight.
It took about 15 years of abuse Dec 16, 2011
By LM I was given this flashlight as a gift sometime in the 1990s. Only difference that I can tell so far is now the trim is yellow instead of red on mine, and I am not sure if my old one took D batteries or had a krypton bulb. It's the case that I really want and this looks identical. It's a real war horse.
Mine has taken years of abuse and still kind of works even now. I've accidentally knocked it off it's hook (about 6' off the ground), or just dropped it so many times that the handles have now broken too much to use even with duct tape. It's too big for me to hold it without the handles. Something's apparently bent inside it too, since also now requires a few extra slaps to turn on. But I am still using it in my yard until I can get a replacement. It's the perfect flashlight for me to grab quickly to make sure that my dog is barking at a possum instead of a burglar. It can go for a year or longer on a 6 volt.
I am thrilled to still find it on the market and am now purchasing a new one to abuse for the next 15 years. If there's any notable changes to it, I'll update this review.
---Update: As I suspected, the only difference between my old one and the new one is the color. So far so good!
A Real Heavyweight Dec 10, 2011

Firstly, this flashlighjt has two great features. One being the dual capabilty to use either a single 6 volt battery or 4 "D" size batteries. The second is the brightness of its light. Now the lesser of the virtues. It has a very diffcult to use on/off switch and is big, bulky and therefore not for most smaller ladies who would like to shed some light on any subject.
