5This Oldie is still the Goodie  Oct 03, 2010 By NLee the Engineer
The Rayovac Hybrid Rechargeable NiMH Batteries was first introduced around beginning of 2007. I have tested those back then (see my review for Rayovac Hybrid 8-Pack), and found them to compare favorably against the Sanyo Eneloop.

Unfortunately, Rayovac seems to have abandoned its 'Hybrid' series, and have replaced it with two new product lines:
- LD715-4OP 'Pre-Charged' AA, and
- PL715-4 'Platinum' Pre-Charged LSD AA

The 'OP' (Opening Price) series is typically sold at a cheaper price in places like W*mart. But its rated capacity is very low at just 1400mAh (tested capacity is slightly higher at around 1500mAh). So it is not a good deal.

The 'Platinum' series is rated for 2100mAh, which is identical to that for the old Hybrid AA cell. I have tested both, and found their capacity ratings to be accurate. But the rated lifespan for Platinum is only 275 cycles, compared to 500 cycles for Hybrid. Furthermore, its measured self-discharge rate is also worse than that of the Hybrid. After sitting on the shelf for less than 4 months (115 days to be exact), the Platinum AA retained 83% of its original charge. In comparison, the old Hybrid can retain at least 85% even after 5 months in storage.

There is also a 'Rayovac 4.0' series which has been discontinued (but still available for now). According to my own observations, it is just the same Hybrid series in shiny wrappers.

As of this writing, the old Rayovac Hybrid can be bought for significantly lower cost than the new Rayovac Platinum. This makes the Hybrid a much better value. But if you are looking for the best quality in low-self-discharge battery, I still recommend the Sanyo eneloop.

5Great rechargable batteries  May 09, 2010 By Loren R. Chambers
I read lots of reviews before purchasing these batteries. Now, after having used them for a few months, I can honestly say they are the best rechargable batteries I've ever used. They seem to last just as long as alkaline batteries and lose very little of their charge in storage. I also purchased a La Crosse Technology BC-700 Alpha Power Battery Charger. Between that and these batteries it is the perfect combination. I use these batteries in my handheld GPS units and they last a surprisingly long time. I'm very satisfied.

5Rayovac Hybrid Rechargeable Batteries  Apr 19, 2010 By Jennifer
Great batteries! We first bought Rayovac Hybrids probably over two years ago now in AA and AAA. We have used them a lot and have been very pleased. They last a long time and hold their charge well when not in use. Whenever we need new batteries these are the ones we buy - well worth the cost.
