50% failure rate, right out of sealed package Aug 15, 2011
By NoSpam
I've been using these batteries for over a decade. I usually buy 10 at a time. The last batch I purchased had a 50% failure rate. Opening the sealed package had batteries with leaks, discolored bodies and low voltage.
Several attempts at contacting the manufacturer, including filling out the RMA form have been 100% ignored. They even have section on the website dedicated for RMAs for the batteries, so it's clear that they know about the problems.
Won't ever touch anything with the Ultralife name on it.
There are now other choices such as Energizer for lithium 9V cells. At least they actually honor their warranty.

Long term experience - 9 years Sep 02, 2011
By A customer I got tired of chirping smoke detectors and put these batteries in my 11 smoke detectors (I have a large home with 7 bedrooms) in December 2002. Today (September 2011) almost 9 years later some just started chirping. I had one battery that was never used, and I put it in new detector about a year ago (the battery was 8 years old, but never used). It is interesting to me to note that the old battery only lasted about a year.
In other words, they may not last a full 10 years (they claim "up to 10 years") but they did last almost 9 years. HOWEVER, if you get new batteries that have been sitting on the shelf for many years they may not last long at all. Make sure they were recently manufactured and they will last a long time. I'm ordering replacements now. I suspect some discounted batteries may be "new old stock" and that accounts for the problems some people have experienced. I definitely like the ability to put the batteries in every detector in the house and forget about them for 8 or 9 years - no more chirping!
FYI, my smoke detectors are connected to AC power, but use these batteries as backup.

excellent batteries Jan 01, 2011
By JMS Regarding the reviewer who got a year and a half use out of these batteries: I suspect the problem is his smoke alarm DOES use the batteries for power ("supposed to" or not). He should put one fresh battery in his detector and leave one unopened on the shelf. When the detector beeps "lo-bat" he'll find the battery on the shelf is still good as new.
I check mine with a voltmeter before installing them, and they always read >9v even if they're 3 years or so into their 10-year shelf life. My alarm sensors do use the batteries for power, and the batteries last about 1-2 years once they're installed.

10 year shelf life - not use life Oct 29, 2011
By AllenC3 This review is for Ultralife batteries in general, not specifically for this Contractor Pack.
These lithium based 9 volt batteries are designed to have a 10 year shelf life, meaning with no load applied they should still produce 9 volts after sitting around doing nothing for 10 years. Most batteries have a self discharge rate much higher than lithium batteries and will go dead on the shelf in a few years. A 10 year shelf life battery when put in service like in an alarm sensor, smoke detector, etc. will last as long as its mAh energy capacity can power the load. So in-service life depends on how much power the device (e.g. smoke detector) uses. Typically for me an Ultralife battery lasts exactly 3 years in one of my alarm system glass break detectors.

Good Battery. Dec 25, 2010
By Brian I got mine over a year ago and they are still going strong. I don't know if I'll remember to update this in 9 years but if they go out sooner I'll probably update. I'd recommend at this point.
