Great Working Battery Charger Jun 13, 2010
By J. Mclaurin For how much this thing costs it is a great buy and it does what it needs to do (charges batteries). The only down side is that it doesn't come with instructions but you can easily find a "how to" video on Youtube. My wife's USB connector died on her phone handset so she needed to charge her battery outside her phone. So that's why I decided to get this product and it charged her battery fully each time and now she can use her phone again until she gets a new one. Highly recommended product if this is your problem.

A little crazy, but it works! Learned how to use from amazon reviews. Dec 15, 2011
By cathyd First off, I agree that this item seems to be cheap and fragile. It is also true that the pins can be hard to see, as the plastic is cloudy, not really clear. I also had trouble figuring it out. AND it takes a few hours to charge. However, I was desperate to find a way to keep my old phone working, as the charge port had broken and a soldering repair failed. For the incredible price, I was willing to give it a try. I paid expedited shipping to get it so I could have a functioning phone. After I figured out how to use it I became really happy with it! Despite all the downs, the ups are worth it. This item is my ticket to freedom right now from signing on with my phone carrier for another 2 year contract. It took awhile to figure out the knack of this thing. First of all, there were no directions. I watched the utube videos, and then called the company who sent it to me. They emailed directions. The directions were WRONG. I waited over 24 hours for my battery to charge in this scenario and NOTHING happened. Then, I read some of the reviews here on this site. I figured out the light sequencing based on these reviews! I have the unit with three lights. The left one says, "Test". The middle says "OK" and the right says "OK". There are Chinese symbols also, on each light. My unit did not have a "polarity reset button".
Here are the directions I was sent by email after contacting HDE, the dealer. (If you want success, stop at #4 and change steps 5 + 6 as I indicate after the dealer's instructions.):
1. Fold the wall outlet plug out of the back of the charger. 2. Press down on the clear plastic clip to open the charger. 3. Insert a battery. The battery will have a small row of metal contacts on one side. Place that side of the battery into the charger. 4. Align the charger's sliding metal pins with the contacts on the battery. Adjust the pins until they make contact with the battery. 5. Plug the charger into a wall outlet. The red Test light and the Green OK light will illuminate. 6. When charging is complete, the middle CH light will illuminate.
******I learned the hard way that steps #5 and #6 are wrong!******* OK, Here is what 4-6 SHOULD say: 4. Align the charger's sliding metal pins with the contacts on the battery. Try to put one pin on the "+" side of the contacts and the other on the "-", if that is marked on your battery. The red test light on the left should glow, showing that the pins are positioned correctly. 5. Plug the charger into a wall outlet, being careful not to move battery. The middle red light should now blink rapidly. And the left test light remains glowing. If the right green light goes on, remove and adjust , replug. Middle light should be flashing while charging. 6. When charging is complete, the middle red flashing light goes OFF and the right green OK light goes ON steady. Like I said, it can be confusing. The green OK light can go on prematurely and the battery can remain uncharged. Keep fiddling with the prongs until that left red test light is on, and the middle light flashes red when plugged in, and you can be assured the thing is charging. It WILL take hours to charge. This is not a quick fix charge. But, I have three batteries I intend to keep rotating with this charger. Thank you, universal battery charger! And thank you, reviewers, for the right instructions!

universal battery charger Feb 17, 2010
By B. Krashin It does work but is VERY slow. It takes several hours to charge the cell phone battery. The battery must be seated in the device very tightly for it to charge at all. The device is slightly larger than expected and can require moving things plugged in around to allow usage of the device. It is cheaper than buying a new cell phone charger. Knowing what I know now....I would not buy this product.

super slow Dec 18, 2011
By l2 These mini battery chargers do work, but they are extremely slow. Most modern smartphone external battery chargers use 800 to 1000mA of electricity. These mini chargers only use 200mA. Simple math tells you that they will need 4 or 5 times as much time to charge your battery. If you have all night, maybe that isn't a big deal. Don't use this if you're in a hurry.

A little sensitive to use, but it does the job Aug 24, 2011
By Daddy Fix This product actually works. It can save an expensive cell phone replacement if the phone's battery charge connector goes bad and the manufacturer claims that connector failures are not a product problem that is covered under warranty (Samsung, for example). It is a bit sensitive about positioning the battery in alignment with the pins in the device, but it is manageable. It does take a long time to charge a battery; about 15 hours for the phone we are using it with. The simple solution for that is to buy a spare battery at the same time you buy this charger so a freshly charged one will always be ready.
